Today we went on our annual walk round the castle woods. Samuel and Amos (who are visiting from Kenya) came with us.
It rained a bit but luckily we all have waterproofs and wellies so it didn't matter. The bluebells were lovely!

P7 were at Transition Sports today, but the rest of us have done lots of exciting things today as well!
First we all made Cheese straws:
Then after break we did orienteering, including learning symbols and making our own maps:
We also had some time for other things too....
Like playing with the guinea pigs (we were experimenting to find out what food they liked best)
Making a hotwheels track outside:
Playing in the Nursery role play area:
Making models from recycled materials:
It's been quite a busy day, but we all enjoyed it and learned new things. We hope P7 had fun too at Transition Sports.

Cosmo and Catherine from the Edinburgh Science Festival came to work with us on Wednesday 20th May. We learned how oil is formed, how it is found, how it is extracted and how it is used. We even got to work in teams to build our own oil rigs!
We all really enjoyed it! Thank you Cosmo and Catherine!

I am writing from Shapinsay School as the secretary from Pupil Council. Our school would like to tell you about the sale that we had on Friday 8th May.
We collected things that people no longer wanted or needed and sold them. The sale was quite successful and a lot of people came so we sold quite a lot, while the Parent Council did teas and coffees. We raised over £250.90 so far. The money we raised is going to be split three ways; a third to us for new toys, a third to Diabetes UK and a third for the Disasters and Emergency Committee for Nepal.
Well done Pupil Council, and thanks to everyone who donated, came along and who helped us.

We went to Sandgarth Beach to collect rubbish and tidy the beach. We were pleased as there wasn't as much as last year. We didn't find as many mermaid's purses either.
We did find a rather splendid bell though which we brought back to school and we hope to hang it up and use it.

P1 - 7 went to Kirkwall to join with children from Eday, Papay and North Ronaldsay. We learned about Fairtrade and did some drama work with the Scottish Youth theatre.
We worked on a song from Ghana, playing different instruments and singing and we made some fantastic animal masks using card and modroc. Well done everyone!

On Friday 20th March the children performed at the RNLI Ceilidh. The older class performed a poem written in Orcadian dialect based on a poem by Cllr Harvey Johnson and a dance they made up themselves using steps from traditional Scottish dances. All children from Nursery - P7 performed 2 songs; "Let it go" and "Touch the Sky". Once again the children excelled themselves - well done!

We all managed to see the eclipse, wearing our special glasses of course. It was amazing!

Guinea Pigs don't like to be on their own, and we have had 2 other lonely guinea pigs donated to us. Their names are Sheepy and Chocolate and they have come to live with Patchy. At the moment we have separated them so they can get used to each other but we hope they can meet each other properly soon.

We are very sad because Miss Squeakalot, one of the guinea pigs, died last Saturday. She hadn't been very well so we took her to the vet but there wasn't anything that could be done.
We all helped at the funeral and have decorated her grave.
