We will be selling Pudsey Ears, wristbands and keyrings in school from 4th November, ready for Children in Need on 14th November.

Many thanks to everyone who came to support the Parent Council Autumn Fayre.

We have delivered the Christmas shoeboxes to McAdie and Reeve who will take them on for the Christmas shoebox appeal - thanks to everyone who brought in boxes (from the community as well as from school) as they will really make a difference to people's lives.

Learning Through Play

At Shapinsay School we understand that people learn best when they are intrinsically motivated. Children learn best when they are playing and engaged in creating challenges and learning about the world around them.

Catherine Diamond, Principal Teacher for Early Years (although learning through play is not just for the youngest children!) came out to work with staff and parents about how we can provide children with high quality play opportunities.

Visit to Stromness - the Hamnavoe and the Pier Arts Centre

We went to Stromness to visit the Hamnavoe and the Pier Arts Centre. We had a great day and came back tired and happy. Thank you to the Community Council for funding our trip and to all the staff on the Hamnavoe (especially the Captains and Kasia) and to Carol at the Pier Arts Centre.

A visitor from the Falkland Islands!

Julie Courtney came to visit our school. She comes from the Falkland Islands which we found out were a very long way away. She talked to us about what life is like there and we told her about Orkney.

Ice Bucket Challenge

Ian, Heather and Miss Clements were all nominated to do the ice bucket challenge. The children very much enjoyed watching!

We have all nominated more people and will be donating to various charities.

We had 2 teams at the East Mainland tournament on Saturday. Well done to all the children who took part, we can all see a big improvement in your football skills and you were a credit to Shapinsay.

New session

Welcome back everyone. We've all settled back to school well with new children in nursery and P1.

End of term

We finished for the summer on the 1st July, and we are sorry to be saying goodbye to the P7s who are off to KGS after the holidays. They didn't get to go quietly though and we all enjoyed the traditional end of year P7 soaking!
