Marine Litter

Anne and Lesley came in to talk to us about Marine Litter and why it is so important to keep the beaches and other areas free from litter. We looked at all the different types of litter and found that that plastic especially is really harmful as it takes so long to degrade.

We also watched these videos to help us remember to keep our oceans free of litter, and that we should all try to help.

Bag the Bruck

We collected loads of rubbish at Sandgarth Beach. Thanks to everyone who came to help us and to Stanley for driving the bus.

Go for it - Portion Sizes

Donna came in today to talk to us about portion sizes. Donna is a dietician and taught us to use our fists to measure portions.

Go for it! - The Eatwell Plate

This term we are working with health professionals from across Orkney to learn about healthy lifestyles. Our first session was on the Eatwell plate and we learned about eating a balanced diet with Vicky Anderson, the school nurse.

Neolithic Tools

Louise came in to show us how Neolithic (New Stone Age) people made tools. It was really interesting, thank you Louise!

World Book Day

We made scenes from books that we like. Everyone worked together really well and thanks to the parents who came in to help us. The finished scenes are great and are now on display for everyone to admire.

Rugby

Mark has been coming to help all the children play rugby, from Nursery to P7. We've all enjoyed it a lot!

 

Classroom work

Shapinsay School will soon look very different (well, the classrooms will anyway!). P1 - 3 and P4 - 7 rooms are now completely empty and soon will be looking great. All 3 classrooms are also getting new flooring. We will post more photos when it's done!

Lifeboat Ceilidh

Well done to all the children who performed brilliantly at the Lifeboat Ceilidh on Saturday 1st February. Everyone was really impressed with your singing and your dancing!

Burns Lunch

Today we had Burns Lunch with the Lunch Club. The P4 - P7 children performed brilliantly, well done!
