Happy Birthday Ian!

It was Ian's birthday, and he was 60 so what better excuse for an end of term / Ian's birthday party! It was great fun!

Christmas Shoeboxes

We are taking part in the Christmas Shoebox appeal again this year, along with Shapinsay Kirk. Please get any shoeboxes in asap!

Carrying the baton for Climate Change

The Shapinsay Kirk is now part of eco congregation Scotland (find out more at www.ecocongregationscotland.org). Rev Julia came in to speak to us with Adrian Shaw from the Church of Scotland, and they brought with them a baton made from a recycled church pew. The baton is travelling across Scotland before going to Paris with a message for those taking part in the Paris climate change talks in December.

We watched this video about climate change and we learned that we can have a positive impact on climate change by reducing the amount of carbon dioxide we produce. We all (including the adults from the community who came in too) made a pledge. By all making small changes, we can hopefully help other communities around the world where climate change is causing people to leave their homes.

Online Safety

Rev Julia Meason came in today to work with some parents about online safety, following guidance from CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection). It was a useful session, and we hope to carry out another session in an evening soon for anyone who couldn't come today.

CEOP is a police led, child protection agency which specialises in tackling abuse on and offline. Through its Education Programme, Thinkuknow CEOP offers a range of safety information for children, young people, practitioners and parents/carers. For more information visit  www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents.
If someone has acted inappropriately towards your child online in any way, you must report it to ClickCEOP at www.ceop.police.uk.

Pupil Council Elections

Well done to everyone who stood for Pupil Council. The children who were successful are pictured below. The first meeting will be next week.

Start of new term

We have had a good start to the new term, with everyone straight back into work. We had a good discussion in assembly today about Pupil Council - elections for the new Pupil Council will take place next Tuesday.

P7 Soaking!

Today we had our end of term assembly and afterwards we managed to soak the P7s... eventually! The plan was to have them posing for a photo while Ian tipped a wheelbarrow of water over them but sadly we had them standing a little far back and the adults got wetter than the children! So we decided it wasn't enough and the children then had hoses and buckets of water thrown over them!

Violins

Well done to the P6s and P7s (and Mrs Sullivan) who gave us a fabulous demonstration of their violin skills today.

The Picnic!

The sun shone and we all had a great time at the Picnic - well done everyone!

Picnic practice

It's the Picnic on Saturday so we have been practising the different events with Mrs Bews.
