Clay pot

The older class made clay models, first we designed them with paper. Then we made nets which is the basic shape of the model. After that we cut the slabs to the right size. We joined the slabs with slip and clay to form the 3D shapes. Once we created the models and finished adding details, we left them to dry for a few weeks, then we painted them. Our learning intentions were to be able to connect clay slabs and make nets for our models.

Cups song

We are learning the cups song so that we can perform it in the end of year assembly.

Click here to see the song and here to see the tutorial. Keep practising so we can all do this at the same time!

French

We have been learning about classroom objects in French. The most fun bit was using the French websites to help us find the classroom objects and help us remember the objects. cool

Tag Rugby

This year we went to one of the annual tag rugby festivals where most of the schools in Orkney play rugby. It is a chance to meet and make new and old friends. We had loads of fun we had two very fast people who scored most of our goals. Thank you to all the organisers and teachers who made it possible.

Compost

We have been learning about microorganisms and how some of them are in food and drinks. Microorganisms wear down rotten things and make them into compost.

Art

weaving

Primary 4 - 7 have been weaving dolls and gods eyes. It was a long process  - we had to weave the legs and then part of the stomach .Then the arms separately .

We collected rocks at bag the bruck and are painting them to be guinea pigs, owls, minions, bugs and penguins.

We have also been making mosaics out of coloured stones and we are nearly done.

Our trip to Kirkwall

We went on a trip to Kirkwall to see the illustrator of horrible histories,Martin Brown

First we stopped off at the bank for an hour as we had been learning about banks last term. We met a man called Dean there and he showed us round the bank he gave us some activities to do.  Next we went to the library.

We ate our packed lunches in a small room. We then got showed the library and the Dewey system -  we got given quizzes to fill in and complete. We also borrowed French books.

Martin Brown taught us how to draw and he signed our books.
